One of the things we love to talk about is how to incorporate your personal style in a modern classic way. At HDI, we specialize in making upscale design cozy and comfortable for everyday living. In recent years, generic themes have been used to categorize various styles, and sometimes they can seem a bit restrictive. Can personal styles truly be confined to such labels? This year, take a closer look at your living space and establish a distinct style that reflects your unique personality. But, what’s the best way to do this? We love to help clients define what they love about their space and show how that can translate to a modern classic aesthetic.
Put blinders on and define what you love in your space
We feel each corner of your home should be decidedly you. Did you bring back a piece of art from a trip that you love? Do you have a sentimental piece that you want highlighted? Are you simply hanging up some art from big box stores to “take up space” on a wall? Do not be afraid to get rid of things that just are not serving you anymore. Take a keen eye to the things you love, and a designer can help you highlight those pieces while editing things that aren’t inspirational.
Forget about the labels
Have you ever found yourself drawn to a modern sofa, despite preferring traditional decor? Maybe you’re a farmhouse fanatic who suddenly loves velvet, or a lover of layered neutrals who now craves a pop of color. It is possible to combine multiple styles to create a space that reflects your unique style. When done correctly, the result is a space that feels one of a kind, instead of cut from a template.

Find inspiration from fashion
Did you know that your personal fashion style can be an indicator of your interior design preferences? Take a peek into your own closet and see what your wardrobe says about your style. Do you prefer classic fashion with statement pieces? This can easily translate into your home decor. If your closet is a mix of patterns and textures, try incorporating those into your interior design to create a well-curated space. Also, keep in mind that many fashion companies now have their own interior design lines, so check if your favorite designer has a home line. If you stick to basic blacks you might like a dramatic touch of black in your space as well. Your jewelry/accessories can also say a lot about what fixtures you might like. Your own taste in fashion can help a designer incorporate some of your personal style into an updated room.

Consider Heritage Style
Heritage textiles refer to textiles that are deeply connected to cultural and historical traditions of a specific region or community. These textiles are characterized by traditional craftsmanship, techniques and designs that have been passed down through generations.
In design, the heritage aesthetic aims to evoke a timeless sense of elegance and sophistication while paying homage to a region or era’s cultural heritage and roots. The heritage decor style creates an ambiance of timeless beauty that honors the design traditions and cultural heritage of the past.
People are leaving mass produced items behind, embracing self-expression through vintage and antique pieces. Your home is more than just a physical space – it’s a reflection of your personality. By incorporating historical pieces, thrifted items, and textiles with a story to tell, you can add a personal touch to your living space that represents your unique style. Is there something about your own heritage that you would like to highlight in your interior? These things can truly inspire a designer in a direction that will inspire you every day.
